ABOUT COURTNEY

Hi. I'm Courtney.
I am engaged to my best friend and planning our wedding for January 2013. As of August of this year, I will be graduating with a Bachelor's degree in English.  For all intents and purposes, you may call me an artistic nerd. I believe that one sentence can change the way we view the world, that music can say exactly what needs to be said without words, and that photography can capture all those beautiful little moments and people that surround us everyday. I am absolutely in love with my Savior,  caramel macchiatos, my one-year-old Schnoodle, thrift stores, and Olive Garden soup...mmm.

Photo Philosophy:
I honestly just believe that photos should speak the truth about life and relationships. Each individual, couple, and family is different, so I have no "shot list" of poses. After all, life is not one posed shot after another. I aim to take photos that take you back to the day and help you to remember exactly how you were feeling. I am constantly taking photos during my sessions to ensure the "in between" moments when people are most themselves. That moment when you get tickled at yourself at the serious face you were trying to make - that's the shot I want. In this light, I like to consider myself a story teller. One day, you will look back on your images and remember the day as it happened and the moments as they were.

What Inspires Me:
I am inspired by film photography. I love a little grain and a soft blur. If money and time were no object, I would shoot with only film cameras and develop my photos in my very own dark room. But, unfortunately, they are...so, instead, I edit my photos to look very similar. I think that much of photography today is a passing fad or terribly over-edited. Film is something timeless, in my opinion. You can pull your photos out in 20 years and still say "wow."

What I Think (And What I Do Not):
I do not consider you guys to be "clients." I think that is such a stuffy term that should be thrown out of the photography industry. I really love to communicate with and get to know the people that I photograph and discover exactly what it is that you are hoping for. For your session, event, or big day, I am your storyteller, personal assistant, and friend. I will be tearing up at your wedding and dancing at your reception...it's pretty much a guarantee.
